The Bedford Bulletin newspaper recently featured the Bedford Chamber ribbon cutting of the ElectricCoArt Market:

“The former electric department building, which housed the Electric Company a decade ago is now housing a new art and artisan center called ElectricCoMarket. The building was built in 1895 when Bedford decided it wanted electric street lights. As power companies in Lynchburg and Roanoke found it unprofitable to run power lines to Bedford, the town had to make its own. The building on Depot Street housed the generator and the conduits that once carried power to the town and are still visible…”
